ROUND ROCK, Texas – Jose Felix drilled a two out single into center field to break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Round Rock Express a 5-1 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Sunday night.
Round Rock scored first with a pair of infield hits in the first inning. Yangervis Solarte singled and scored the games first run.
The Zephyrs evened the score at one in the bottom of the sixth inning. Donovan Solano singled, advanced to second on a ground-out and scored on a Joe Mahoney RBI single.
New Orleans threatened in the top of the seventh with two men on and one out when the Express lifted their starter Scott Richmond. Wilmer Font entered the game and retired Gorkys Hernandez and Solano to end the threat.
With two men on and two outs, Felix singled home the go-ahead runfor Round Rock. Leury Garcia doubled home two more runs and the Express grabbed a 4-1 lead.
Font earned the win working two thirds of an inning. Z’s starter Duane Below took the defeat pitching six and two thirds and allowed four runs on eight hits.
The Zephyrs fall to 41-43 on the year and a season-high seven games back of the Express. Round Rock wins the weekend series three games to one and the season series 9-7.
Game Notes –Donovan Solano extended his hit streak to 17 games with a sixth inning single. He has a hit in all 17 games with New Orleans this season, longest hit streak this season by a Zephyr. The hit streak is the longest for the Zephyrs since 2010, when Brian Barden hit in 21 consecutive.
Coming Up: The Zephyrs continue the trip to Omaha, Nebraska on Monday night. The Z’s and Storm Chasers meet in the first game of the four game set. New Orleans will start RH Matt Neil (2-3, 5.82) against Omaha LH Everett Teaford (3-2, 2.81). RADIO: WMTI 106.1 FM “The Ticket”
